NU Media | New York City is Reopening đź—˝ What Does That Mean for Restaurants?

70% of New York residents are fully vaccinated.

As the summer heat rolls in, New York City is well on its way to returning to pre-pandemic levels of activity. On June 15th, Governor Andrew Cuomo lifted most of New York State’s COVID restrictions.

Restriction changes include:

– Businesses have the option to enforce mask wearing and social distancing, but are no longer mandated to require employees and patrons to do so.
– Social distancing can be reduced or eliminated between tested and vaccinated individuals, allowing salons, venues, and gyms to operate at 100% capacity.
– Subways have resumed 24-hour service while continuing to sanitize and disinfect surfaces at main stops.

With restrictions gradually being lifted, many businesses are seeing an increase in traffic and tourism. To facilitate the rebuilding of the local economy, some [shops/businesses] are offering promotions and participating in events such as NYC Restaurant Week.Established in 1992, NYC Restaurant Week is a semiannual program that celebrates New York City. Participating restaurants citywide offer menus at a special price for lunch and/or dinner. The program runs from July 19–August 22, but restaurants may participate for one, two, three or all four weeks.

Restaurants that are participating in such events include 698 Cafe located in Flushing and Patsy’s Pizzeria with two locations in Manhattan. For a more detailed list of restaurants that are currently slated to offer restaurant week promotions, please visit the NYC Official Guide website here.
